I have been working on preparing an hour and a half lesson
to teach to about 50 middle school students and 10-15 of their teachers.
Many of my present and former esteemed teaching colleagues have readily & graciously
assisted in offering their ideas, activities and advice to assist me in
providing the most meaningful learning experience for my new Chinese friends!
I'm extremely grateful - thank you!
Not being sure about technology availability, resources, the physical lay out
of the room, I've tried to anticipate & be ready for everything and
anything!
The hour and a half lesson planned will provide a differentiated
instruction/multiple intelligence approach.
The philosophy will be explained with a YouTube clip, a sampling of lesson
activities to address the different intelligences are planned & ready
to travel!
- Students will listen to
Whitney Houston's version of "America The Beautiful", writing
down unfamiliar words & drawing a picture of what they visualize from
the song. After sharing an imovie depicting scenes of America will
be viewed
- Conduct a science experiment
- "How many drops of water can a penny hold?" - talk about the
significance of the penny, superstition & keep the penny as a
souvenir!
- Together we will read & analyze
a picture book story "Mr. Peabody's Apples" written by a
popular American icon in China, Madonna, with a menu of cooperative group
activities to select from - each activity will address a different intelligence/learning
style.
- The Chinese students &
teachers will then have the opportunity to take a multiple intelligence
survey to assess their own learning styles.
- Make a connection between the
multiple intelligences and 21st century teaching & learning -
technology - and of course, I have plenty of imovies & slideshows of
Lake Shore Highland students engaged!
Trying to pack it all tonight will be a bigger challenge than teaching the
lesson!

Mrs. Mirand and Mr. Rabey;
We hope your trip to China is going well. Your lesson and presentation look fantastic. Knowing those students somewhat, we're sure they will appreciate it.
We're sure you will not have a lot of time to blog while you're there, but we are looking forward to
hearing some of your experiences. We will continue to check in. Let us know if we can be of any assistance from our end and be sure to
wish our friends in China the best!
